Job Summary
Electric Grid Partners, LLC (EGP) is seeking retired or active police officers and firefighters to support electric utilities during major weather events in the Northeast.
This is part-time, on-call storm work focused on public safety — protecting the public when damaged electric infrastructure presents a hazard. Assignments typically occur during severe storms and may require rapid mobilization and multi-day deployments.
Role Overview
Wire Guards are dispatched to hazardous locations where electrical infrastructure poses a potential risk to public safety. Under the direction of a Wire Guard Coordinator, you will maintain a safe perimeter and provide a visible safety presence until qualified utility personnel make the site safe.
Key Responsibilities
- Confirm availability with the Wire Guard Coordinator during potential weather events
- Mobilize quickly when activated for an event
- Deploy to assigned locations as directed
- Maintain a safe public perimeter using cones, tape, signage, and personal presence
- Monitor hazardous conditions from a safe distance
- Communicate field conditions and any issues back to the Wire Guard Coordinator
- Remain on site until released by qualified electric utility personnel
- Be prepared to work long shifts and remain deployed for multiple consecutive days
Work Conditions
- Up to 16-hour shifts
- Multi-day deployments may be required
- Outdoor work in adverse weather conditions
- Standing or remaining on site for extended periods
Qualifications
- Active, retired, or volunteer Police Officer or Firefighter
- Experience protecting the public from hazardous conditions strongly preferred
- Ability to mobilize quickly during storm events
- Physically capable of standing by a job site for extended periods
- Comfortable using a smartphone and basic mobile applications
- Valid Class D Driver’s License
- Reliable 4x4 vehicle (use of personal vehicle required; mileage reimbursement available)
- Authorized to work in the United States
- Able to communicate clearly and professionally in English
