In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience 1) administering or managing a wide range of fire department occupational safety and health programs; 2) investigates or assists supervisors with the investigation of any employee or visitor accident; 3) assists and assures compliance with any and all physical fitness standards or requirements to include physical ability testing for police officers and firefighters; 4) reviews all DES training plans, SOPs and lesson plans for compliance with established safety requirements/regulations; and 5) develops and monitors the effectiveness of the risk management plan, ensuring the risk management plan is revised annually. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).
In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must possess these Department of Defense (or IFSAC) Certifications: Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector II, Hazardous Materials Technician, Hazardous Materials Incident Command, and National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) IS-700, IS-800, IS-100 and IS-200.
