In order to qualify, you must meet the
experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes
1) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards;
2) Conducting inspections of facilities/buildings, alarms, and detection and/or suppression systems; and
3) Providing fire prevention training or educational material to personnel within an organization. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service
(GS-07).
Selective Placement Factors: Must meet and maintain all required certifications in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M "DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification Program" (F&ESCP) dated January 22, 2020. Certifications through the DoD, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), and National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications "Pro Board" will meet these certifications requirements below:
o Fire Instructor I
o Fire Inspector II
o Firefighter II
o Hazardous Materials Technician
o Driver Operator Pumper
o National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or State EMT
o Drive Operator Aerial (Must be obtained within 18 months from start of position.)Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience to qualify.
