This position is responsible for conducting the department's fire prevention functions.
This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Barrow County Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: - Ensures compliance with local and state fire and life safety codes for new and existing commercial structures within the county; and conducts plan and life safety reviews of new construction plans and fire sprinkler/suppression system plans;
- Conducts inspections of county educational facilities; and notes findings and relays to facility staff for correction;
- Directs and monitors the use of blasting agents; reviews fireworks display applications; and approves or denies same;
- Prepares and conducts fire and life safety education for citizens and students; and consults with private stakeholders in the development of emergency plans;
- Prepares a variety of records, forms, and reports;
- Serves as a liaison to the State Fire Marshal's Office;
- Serves as a liaison to fire protection contractors; and makes recommendations on issues related to fire protection;
- Assists the Training Officer in the training of recruits;
- Provides assistance to the general public on matters related to fire safety;
- Prepares and maintains files and records on all new and existing commercial and educational structures within unincorporated portions of the county;
- Responds to emergency scenes and provides support to incident command as needed;
- Prepares and reviews pre-fire plans for accuracy;
- Assists in the development and management of the fire prevention budget;
- Reviews and signs-off on Certificates of Occupancy;
- Coordinates hydrant maintenance and flow testing; and
- Performs other assigned duties.
- Bachelor’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field;
- Five (5) years of related work experience;
- Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience;
- Valid State of Georgia Driver’s License; and
- Must meet current requirements set forth by the National Fire Protection Association and the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Act.
